FIRM EXPERIENCE

Since 1997 I, Sacramento, California Criminal Defense Law Attorney Jonathan Turner, have represented both individuals and corporations, adults and juveniles, accused of a wide variety of criminal cases throughout Northern California. I regularly appear in the following county courthouses: Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, El Dorado, San Joaquin, Solano, Amador, Butte, Sutter, and Yuba. The following is a list of some of the types of cases that my firm handles:

Driving Under the Influence
This includes DUI with prior offenses, felony DUI due to causing injury to another or having at least 3 prior DUI convictions, Under 21 DUI (which requires a lower blood-alcohol level), juvenile court DUI, and DUI based on drugs and/or prescription medication.

Domestic Violence
This includes both misdemeanor and felony domestic violence related offenses including assault and battery of a spouse or domestic partner, criminal threats (CA Penal Code section 422), false imprisonment, disabling a telephone, and violation of a restraining order.

Our firm also specializes in civil harassment and domestic violence restraining order matters. If you are an individual or a business or corporation being harassed by a former partner, neighbor, co-worker, stranger, employee, or acquaintance we can assist you in obtaining a restraining order to prevent that person from further harassment of you and your family or business. Likewise, if you are served with a restraining order and want to contest it (restraining orders, if granted, are public records), we can also defend you in court.

Computer, High Tech and Internet Crimes
These include charges of possessing child pornography, fraud, and identity theft.

Firearm/Weapons Offenses
These may include brandishing a firearm, having a concealed weapon in a car, possession of a knife or club, and felon in possession of a firearm.

Theft-Related Offenses
These include petty theft, shoplifting, second-degree burglary (including entering a business with the intent to steal), receipt of stolen property, embezzlement (theft from an employer), ID theft, auto burglary, auto theft/grand theft auto, fraud, forgery, and perjury.

Alcohol and Drug-Related Offenses
Many crimes include the use of drugs or alcohol. Alcohol-related offenses can be especially damaging for high school and college students. I have represented numerous college students including Sacramento State and UC Davis students receiving citations for minor in possession of alcohol and/or public intoxication. Such crimes can be misdemeanors and thus negatively impact a young person’s future.

Drug Possession, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Drug Possession with the Intent to Sell (Drug Sales), illegal marijuana cultivation, and Drug Transportation are also common drug-related offenses.

Sex Crimes
Those accused of sex crimes including child molestation, unlawful sex with a minor (“statutory rape”), rape by force or by use of an intoxicant, child annoyance (CA Penal Code section 647.6), sexual battery, lewd conduct, indecent exposure, various internet sex crimes, and sex registration (CA Penal Code section 290) violations require an experienced criminal defense attorney. The consequences for any sex crime conviction can be life-long, such as registration, and devastating.

Sex Offender/Sex Registration/Megan’s Law Website Relief
If you have been convicted of a sex crime in the past, we may be able to relieve you with some or all of the consequences of that conviction including sex registration requirements. We are experienced in assisting individuals in petitioning to be removed from the Megan’s Law Website. We also have assisted clients in obtaining Certificates of Rehabilitation and Pardons so that they no longer have to register as sex offenders.

Juvenile Crimes and Juvenile Court Cases
Our firm has specialized experience in representing juveniles in juvenile court which operates under different rules and procedures than adult courts. Because juvenile court cases can negatively impact a young person’s future, it is important they have an experienced juvenile court criminal defense attorney working on their behalf.

Vehicular Manslaughter
There are different levels of vehicular manslaughter depending on the alleged intoxication and/or driving pattern of the accused. Whether charged as a felony or misdemeanor, vehicular manslaughter carries severe consequences.

Murder and Homicide
This includes Second Degree Murder based on a DUI that results in death – a relatively new and devastating law in California.

Traffic Court Cases
Traffic Court cases may be charged as misdemeanors, such as reckless driving (CA Vehicle Code section 23103) and driving on a suspended license (CA Vehicle Code section 14601). Misdemeanor crimes carry not only heavy fines but also potential jail time and probation. Other traffic court cases may be infractions such as speeding but may result in a drivers license suspension which can be devastating for someone who drives for a living, such as a truck driver, or someone who merely needs a license to get to and from work and school.

Drivers License and CA DMV Cases
Drivers License suspensions and revocations are governed by the CA Department of Motor Vehicles. DMV may suspend or revoke a license based on a DUI, CA Zero Tolerance policy, testing positive for alcohol while on DUI probation, conviction of an alcohol or drug-related offense while being under 21 (CA Vehicle Code section 13202.5), too many points on a driving record (negligent operator suspension), a medical condition such as seizures, or an at-fault accident resulting in a fatality. Our firm has handled hundreds of DMV hearings and saved our clients licenses numerous times. We can help you minimize the length of a suspension, obtain a probationary license, a restricted license allowing driving for all work and/or school purposes, or a critical needs license (for those under 21).

Clearing or Cleaning Up a Criminal History
Our firm can assist you in cleaning up your criminal history so as to improve your job and future prospects. This includes expungements i.e. set aside and dismissal of a misdemeanor or felony conviction under CA Penal Code section 1203.4, early termination of probation under CA Penal Code section 1203.3, deletion of an arrest record/obtaining a certificate of detention (CA Penal Code sections 849.5 and 851.6), findings of factual innocence (CA Penal Code section 851.8), the sealing and destruction of drug offenses under CA Penal Code section 1000, the reduction of a felony to a misdemeanor (CA Penal Code section 17(b)), Certificates of Rehabilitation and Pardons, Removal from Megan’s Law Website, and relief from requirement to register under CA Penal Code section 290.

In summary, if you or a loved one are being criminally charged or investigated for any crime, contact the Law Office of Jonathan Turner. We have the experience to assist you through these difficult times and vow to aggressively represent you so that you achieve the best outcome possible.
